People find it hard to sleep well, get enough exercise and physical activity, and feel that they are constantly under stress each day. As a result they struggle to maintain their energy levels and perform at their best throughout the day.

We need to focus on helping people change how they feel.
The experience needs to transcend graphs and charts. Everything from tracking to analysis to providing insights and content needs to culminate in getting users to act to achieve the life they want: Optimize energy levels, improve health, and feel great every day.
Quantifying for a user how well they sleep, exercise, move throughout the day, and how often they take stress-relieving breaks will help them change their related behavior and, as a result, feel better and have more energy.
We began testing and creating profiles of the types of people using the product. The key factors in the questioning were:
Their motivations, barriers, interests, aspirations, backstory, tools they use throughout the day, daily behaviors, current wearables they use, and a “day in the life.”

"To me, balance is a good word,
I want to be balanced in my sleep, activity, and rest. Balance means that I'm level—not too high or too low. I have a good work /play balance."

“Yes, I want more energy. I like the whole-person view/approach. My previous app experience gives you isolated/specific things but not a whole picture. This one looks like it will do that and more!”
"How does it know where my balanced level should be? Balance is getting them all in the same zone. But I'm wondering, once I'm in balance, is the app going to nudge me to get them even higher slowly?"

Energy is not a number or metric.
Energy is the benefit when striking a balance of 4-key activities.

Sleep Recovery — The amount of sleep needed by an individual varies quite widely and doesn't measure how your body is recovering during that sleep. Combining the measurement of sleep duration and the quality of cardiovascular recovery better measures how the body is reacting to sleep and factors such as alcohol, exercise, and diet have on your recovery.
Recharge Moments — First-beat shows us that most people are under constant physiological stress during the day - regular breaks that stimulate physiological recovery will help recharge.
